Pros: Reliability, Easy to use, High quality picture, Compact, Great value

Cons: Difficult to set up

Best Uses: Bedroom, Living room, Secondary TV, Primary TV

Describe Yourself: Power User, Home entertainment enthusiast, Technophile

I purchased the Roku box after hearing about it on Twit.tv. I have purchased the new Apple TV, Sony Google TV also. This box blew them out of the water in some aspects. First thing that was perfect was the services that the Roku can do, such as Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu Plus. Each streams perfectly and in 1080p without issue. Where the apple TV only does Netflix and their own service. Now the Google TV tries to make up for the fact they can only do Netflix at this time by working with your cable system to allow you to search for items that you are looking for which would be a good item for the roku box to somehow add to their service.

The one item that I would love to see the roku box get that the Google TV has is some type of keyboard on the remote. Having to type in user names and passwords using arrow keys is a mind numbingly slow process.

All in all I use the Roku box more than I use the Apple TV or Google TV because they have the better services which give me the best options for watching movies and TV Shows. Great job guys!!

First off, I received a free copy through the O’Reilly Blogger Review Program. I remember seeing this in my local bookstore but decided to not purchase it. Well, that was a big mistake. This volume was for musicians and being a part time musician, I was able to get tons out of this. Even some of the ads in it were not only able to get my attention but they directed me to tools that I never saw before but will be seriously looking at for use on stage.

One thing that really grabbed me from this was how easy and well explained some of the do it yourself projects were. When I was growing up, I can remember my grandfather taking me to his workbench and teaching me how to solder, test resisters and capacitors and really work on electronics. This magazine brought those days back to me, as weird as that may sound. It brought me back to wanting to start building and making things again and showing me how easy it is.

Check it out. You won’t regret it.

What a Musician/Teacher with nothing to say? Well, I have lots to say but I’ve bit my tongue or didn’t want to be too controversial. The time has finally come for me to speak my mind so be prepared. I’ll be doing reviews of products & technologies along with observations on everything else that I feel needs to be addressed. Keep checking.
